Here’s What You Need to Know About Bissell Maple Farm
Discover maple season like a local at Bissell Maple Farm this year. Take in the sights and smells of an authentic northern sugar shack. You can make a dentist appointment later—make the most of maple season while it lasts!
- The History of Bissell
In 1830, Peter Bissell and his family began settling the 3.3 million acres of Northern Ohio known as the Western Reserve. The family established a farm producing a range of products from dahlias to their stash of homemade maple syrup.
Years later, Carl Bissell continued the legacy of the apple orchard but was eventually put out of business due to bustling construction nearby. David Bissell picked up where Carl left off in Rock City, and the maple tradition carries on today. The farm encompasses an expanded sugar house, modern equipment, and large crowds that flock each year to get a taste of the sweet sorghum.
- Maple Madness Tour
See how the age-old product is produced to the highest maple standards at their Maple Madness Tour. Tour the sugar shack, ride around the farm on horse and carriage, enjoy live music, and put their syrup to the test on a short stack of pancakes.
Tour dates are limited so in case you miss out on the in-season action, Bissell’s country store is open year-round, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
