Everything You Need to Know About South River Vineyard

History of South River Vineyard
South River Vineyard is comprised of a church that initially sat in Shalersville, Ohio. Owner Gene Sigel was driving past the old church on his way to Kent one day and asked a resident if he could photograph it. The resident replied, “you can do more than photograph it; you can have it.” And so, Sigel began dismantling the 1892 church and brought it back to Geneva.
It has operated just off of South River Road since 2002 and remains a favorite for locals looking for a quiet place to unwind.
The winery continues to restore some of the most critical factors of the church to preserve its bones. Sit in the original pews, stand over the reclaimed wood flooring, and awe at the stained glass windows.
However, that’s not to exclude their newer additions. Recline in an Adirondack chair and relax in the vines or warm up by the large, outdoor fireplace. South River doesn’t need the sights and sounds like some of its counterparts—become one with Mother Nature at South River Vineyard.
Travel Tip: South River Vineyards is just 50 miles east of Cleveland and a quick 20-minute drive to Geneva-on-the-Lake.
Chances are you came for the wine, and South River doesn’t disappoint. The winery offers oak-aged Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Pinot Noir.
